Silent Impact
Hunt or be hunted.
- 02Players, one screen
- 02Asymmetric roles
- 01Shared submarine
The premise
Two players, one submarine, two entirely different jobs. One steers the Helm and never sees the whole picture. One reads the Picture and cannot touch the controls. Neither of you can do the other's work.
Everything runs on a reveal-and-conceal economy. Information costs position. Every ping you send to find them is a ping that tells them exactly where you are.
The two seats
- The Helm
- Course, depth, and throttle. You feel the boat and nothing else — you are steering on a description of the world someone else is giving you.
- The Picture
- Sonar, contacts, and interpretation. You know where things are, or think you do, and your only instrument is your voice.
- The trade
- An active ping resolves the contact and broadcasts your own bearing. Silence keeps you hidden and blind. There is no setting where you get both.
